Evaluation Question 1

In what way does your media production use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Before developing the idea for our trailer me and Elliot both looked into various crime thriller films and shows. After looking in to these films and shows be decided to base our idea from the film Sin City as it had a very similar plot and theme to what we wanted. The theme we were looking for was a mysterious and interesting murder plot to which we could base a trailer around. From this research we found out that many crime thrillers do not explain their plot either till the very end or near the end of the film, we took this into consideration as the trailer we were developing was going to twist the typical "good guy" "bad guy" plot to a more you the viewer do not relay know who is the murderer allowing viewer to make assumptions on who commuted the crime but we did not want to give away to much of the plot in the trailer as we wanted viewers to be lead towards their own conclusions of the trailer. This challenges the normal crime thriller theme as most crime thrillers have a obvious "good guy" and "bad guy". throughout the process of developing a story to base a trailer around we also had to think of how to portray each character as we did not want to give an obvious answer to who is the "good guy" so we had to try and add a level of mystery to our main character. to do this we filmed shots of him with the body and knife indicating that he had commuted the murder but at the same time had him looking shocked as if he just found her like this further confusing the  viewer. in conclusion I believe that we have both followed some media conventions but at the same time challenged some typical themes to the crime thriller genera.

Evaluation Question 3

After showing my final production to a select group f people I asked them a series of questions. The questions I asked were:
(Note each person in the group wished to keep their identity private so I have simply addressed them as person 1-3)

Overall did you like the production and was their any parts in particular that you enjoyed?

Person 1 "Overall I enjoyed the trailer, it seems like something I would be interested in and would like to find out more about this film"

Person 2 "Its a very intriguing trailer, it has a very mysterious essences about it which helps keep you interested in it"

Person 3 "Not relay my type of film however i did enjoy some of the transitions and camera work like the transition between the city pan shot and the busy street"

Would this be something you would go and see at the cinema because of this trailer

Person 1 "Yes the trailer has fully grabbed my attention and I want to find out the full story"

Person 2 "The mystery and what seemed like secret hidden within the trailer does make me want to find out more"

Person 3 "Although this type of film does not normally take my fancy it might be something I would pick up as a DVD or stream of the internet but not to go out to the cinema"

Do you think the sound track and narrative fitted the video?

Person 1 "The jazzy sound track did seem a bit odd at first but as you get in to the trailer it sort of suits it and the narrative was well timed and seemed to link with each scene adding to the enjoyment"

Person 2 "I did not particularly like the soundtrack as it took away from the mysterious feeling but the narrative was very well timed and added to the intriguing mystery

Person 3 "Personally I felt that the song in the background did not aid the trailer as a whole but the narrative did add something more to the trailer"

In conclusion from my audience feed back I feel that overall the production was successful and achieved its goal (to grab the interest of the viewer and interest them to go a view the film). Also from my audience feedback I have gained some important improvements I could make to the trailer or use in another project.
